I HATE FUCKING BANKS
Now...Im not the best spender. The majority of the time I may be moving and humanly function but Im not in my head. I spend a lot of money on fast food and alcohol...eh and other drugs (cash withdrawals). I love the debit card. Its so easy to use...internet banking...GREAT!...having a phone number where I can check my balance before I spend PERFECT! ...but I am angry...I have a big grin but I am furious. If the bank was open now I would be in there raising hell and picketing on the streets. ...So yeah...I was over. I Spent 6.8somthn cents more than what I had in the bank. This happened through 5 transactions that hit the bank at rearranged dates from the purchase with the largest ($20.45) second to last, when it was the first actual purchase.
I'm used to that....thats okay with me. BUT WHEN I CALL THE BANKS ATOMATED SERVICE AND AM TOLD MY CURRENT BALANCE THEN MY AVAILABLE BALLANCE (which includes recent and outstanding check card verifications) AND ONLY WHEN MY AVAILABLE BALANCE IS MORE THAN WHAT I AM ABOUT TO SPEND, THEN I MAKE THE PURCHASE. ...but I have no proof...no proof of what that sensual robotic voice tells me. I assume it to be right. I should assume that is correct...I shouldn't have to question....AND I DONT.
Through all the math I used 6 dollars and some odd cents that I did not have available. Oh and overdraft is when you begin to spend your last dollar...not when you go below zero, so really it was 5 something of the banks money that I spent for ciggarettes for my sister. But somehow that 5 dollars that was somehow turned into $104.someth'n since the 23 of Aug. ITS THE 27...4 DAYS AND THAT 5 DOLLARS BECOMES 104 DOLLARS...NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NON NO NO ONONONONONONONONONONNONO....WRONG!
First they charge me an overdraft before I am overdrawn...the charge is $33 then comes the actually overdrawn amount another $33 now for my third overdrawn purchase another overdraft fee of $25...then a couple of 7 dollar fees for having a negative ballance. ON FEES ALONE THEY HAVE CHARGED ME APRX 105 DOLLARS! IN FEES FEES FEES for using mistakingly using 6 bucks that was said to be available by their automated service. FUCK! and this is not the first time similar shit like this has happend....INFACT HAPPENS WAY TO FREQUENTLY...AND I FALL FOR IT EVERY FUCKING TIME!
This is USBANK btw...and they are awful...my buddies tell me to grow up and get a real bank...but I like usbank services...they are easy to use..and convenient...BUT THEY FUCKING STICK IT TO YA.
I still dont want to leave that bank...I WILL THREATEN TO...but at this point, Im not quite the quality customer...I mean they do get me with a lot of fees, but Im just not paying for it this time. Ill give them what I spent ($6) ...maybe with 5 days of interest...like a loan...but those fees are out of the question. I'm calm right now...typing slow...speaking in rhythmic monotone...naked and rubbing myself, but I swear, Im killing this Son-of-Bitch.
104 bucks in accumalated fees in 4 or 5 days fucking days

Long story short, you should be more responsible. I ALWAYS keep tabs on my account balance, but then again...I rarely spend money. I'm just a miser. :)

Well, most regular people that support themselves have had an overdraft. I have. I am pretty responsible, and I have since switched to overdraft protection. You can apply for it and see if they offer that at your bank.
I also have been infuriated at the bank. I know it is my responsibility, but it sucks to pay like 20-30 bucks for some 5 dollar item. I have been there.
Check out the overdraft protection though. It saves you from getting fees. Even if you set up a savings account, you can connect it to it as overdraft.

overdraft protection is the bank's way of saying that you are irresponsible...and since you are irresponsible...we will CHARGE you an additional five dollars per month!!!!
what the hell? the reason why you would need overdraft protection is in case you have no money in your account...yet, this great idea DRAWS money out of your account.
feh...everybody is always trying to make a buck.

If only it was 5 dollars per month. The overdraft charge happened on the 22 of Aug and my balance (without charges) was $6.somth'n. By Aug 27 my balance was near 104.something. Ridiculous.
Irresponsible with my money...YEAH. I do not keep track of it on paper. I depend on their automated system which should be accurate, but thats not always the case.
I just woke up..haven a smoke...doing laundry and then I'm there.
Fucking USBANK.

Quotes of their response:
"We are at no fault when technology is not dependable."
"The Federal Reserve says we can."
and although my dillema has nothing to do with "Pay at the Pump" they contunious recite how they may effect the automated system and that they will not change the phrasing of their automated system to mention that DOES NOT reflect all pending transactions when the autosystem says that it "reflects ALL current and pending transactions."
This is my beef. Time for the BBB and if no justice is done there...PICKETING AND BOMBING!

Well, overdraft "protection" is free, if you have good credit, or can link a savings account to it. Overdraft "fee" is what they charge you when you go over.
There was a huge Frontline about creditors. They have the software programmed to make huge money in fees. It is programmed so that purchases fall before deposits. It is legal though. There is a huge business in fees, especially for credit cards.
I won't own or use a credit card. There is a major abuse of credit cards, and a whole industry that targets young adults. It is awful. I wish I had a link to that episode. I love Frontline. It is a documentary news show that comes on PBS.
I hate beauracracy and fucking red tape. It makes me feel helpless if I don't know the rules. They never tell you. It is always a scam.

I love credit cards. I couldn't live without one. It is great when you don't want to carry around a lot of cash, or waste your time and someone else's writing checks. It's all good as long as you pay off the balance each month, and kinda have a general idea of what you are spending. That way, you don't go over and have to pay the fees.
So far, I haven't spent over the limit on the card, and haven't had any problems with it. I take that back, one problem...and that was because the cashier had no idea what they were doing. I didn't have to pay anything in fees for spending too much though. I went ahead and got that resolved asap, so it wasn't that big of a deal.

Through all of this ranting, I still don't see how it's the banks fault. Be more responsible and this won't happen. There is no excuse to go over your balance. I mean, unless you are really cheap and keep like $5 in there at a time and enjoy spendin' big money then you are going to have some problems.

I use a Visa debit card. That works as a credit card for any situation I would need one.
It isn't the bank's fault. Some people that grow up and live on their own don't always have a ton of money. I have a high paying job now, but when I didn't have a lot of money, it isn't easy to support yourself and never go over.
Bumbleeky, It's easy for you to throw around the word responsibility when you live with your parents. People overdraft, and some day, you might too. One judgemental post stating the obvious pretty much covered it. I got you the first time.

Hold the phone. Other activites that I do in my life have NOTHING to do with the how I spend my money. Yes, I live with my parents, but I buy EVERYTHING with my own money. Hell, I even signed up for college on my own credit card. You think they are gonna pay? FUUCCCKKKK no. I bought my books with my own money. They give me 0 cash and you are gonna sit there and try to tell me about responsibility? I know how much money I have at all times and I never make mistakes when it comes to something like that. It's just stupid not to keep track of your money or how it's being spent. There is NO reason for someone to go over a balance without them knowing about it. Family, kids, jobs, and etc. No reason. I'm not saying people don't go over their balance. I'm saying that people should KNOW when they are about to go over balance. Leprat should not act surprised at all.
Sorry, you didn't "get" me.

I am pretty sure the jist of pointing out the flaws in other's responsibility was driven home in your multiple posts about it. Kudos.
Overdraft happens, but fortunately not to you. You won't ever make a mistake, so congratulations. :)

See, I heard you telling people to be responsible the first time. The second time was when I said something. We all heard you the first time.
But like I said, it is irrelevant because you are perfect. ;)

My shock came from $100s in fees over 4 or 5 days, which includes a weekend. Also, there system had failed to be as adequate as they claim.
Sure, your parents give you zero money. I know how that goes, but I bet when your hungry, they will supply food.
No, I don't keep track of every penny, but I do have a great, falible, but great mental notation. So, I miss calculated by $6.38 ...so did the banks services.
Blame the bank for my overdraft charges, partially.
I hope you never do miss calculate your balance or you will see the fucked up system of fees first hand.

Yes, I know fees can be bad. Still though, how can you let your balance get that low to the point where it might happen? I don't get it. If you do keep some mental notes about how much is in there...you would have knew you were gettin' somewhere low and shouldn't be buying things. I just don't understand. Supply food? Yeah...right. I came home tonight after classes and said "what's to eat?" and they told me "McDonalds, you have money".
Sparky, good thing your post doesn't have any sarcasm.
